On the afternoon of August 27th, the “Golden Stone Pavilion” of the Purple Mountain Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was officially opened to the public, and more than 30 meteorites from all over the world were unveiled. The reporter learned from the scene that more than 90% of the "outside visitors" contributed to the folk meteorite collectors. The ones who found these meteorites were a group of meteorite hunters who searched for rocks in the desert all year round.

Most of the exhibits in this stone pavilion are the treasures collected by the meteorologist Lu Liangming. His other identity is the ceo of the Sino-US joint venture company. Because he is obsessed with these "stones from the stars", he has spent nearly ten million yuan in the past five or six years. In addition to scouring the rock in the meteorite market, he also funded a group of meteorite hunters to find meteorites in the desert.

“Every year, 40,000 tons of meteorites fall on the earth, but most of them fall into the sea or forests. It is difficult to find. Currently, the places where meteorite hunters look for are mainly the Antarctic, the Sahara Desert, and the Taklimakan Desert and Kumutage in Xinjiang. Desert. These places are inaccessible, and the meteorites can be preserved intact.” Lu Liangming said that the meteorite hunters walked in the desert for eight months a year, each time driving off-road vehicles into the desert, with 1 ton of water and instant noodles, potatoes, Cabbage, etc., stay in it for 2-3 weeks.

The process of finding a meteorite is very hard, can you find a meteorite, and it is a test of luck. Lu Liangming said that he had funded a six-person meteorite squad that once entered the Kumutage Desert in Xinjiang to find a meteorite. Five of them went out to find and left one to cook at the base. The five people who went out worked hard for two hours to come back and found nothing. The left-behind man shook out the smoke after cooking, kicked the sand under his feet, and kicked out a meteorite. Another time, this person, driving on a newly opened highway, when the car approached Urumqi, suddenly blocked in front of the car, this person got off the bus, actually found a meteorite in the middle of the road.

According to experts from the Zitai Astrochemistry and Planetary Science Laboratory, most of the meteorites are brown, and their chemical composition is very different from that of the earth's stones. However, it is difficult for ordinary people to judge with the naked eye and needs to be identified by the laboratory. At present, there are two major domestic identifications of meteorites, one is the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the other is Zitai. "We have seen a lot of bags of stones, and the results of the identification are all stones on the earth."
